The profitability of the check cashing business can be easily established through an examination of the annual revenues reported of the three largest competitors in the business.
Ace Cash Express is the largest chain of check cashing stores in the United States and generated $309.9 million in annual revenues during 2006 which represented a 15.4% annual growth rate over the previous period.
Clearly, the check cashing and payday loan industry is often defined by its immense profitability which is achievable because, in many cases, the types of checks these businesses cash or guarantee with a loan, are low-risk checks with little chance of default by the issuer.
However, these revenues and profits only indicate part of the promise of this industry. The industry is poised to experience rapid growth and expansion over the next few years and this growth appears to be sustainable into the foreseeable future.
